The AI Roadmap

Availability: Pro, and every trial.

Once the organisation knows which AI tools people use and has agreed its policies, the next question is what to do about AI, and when. The Roadmap, in the main menu, is where you keep that plan: each piece of work is an initiative, with someone responsible for it and a rough sense of when. It's a plan, not a project tool: there are no tasks or dependencies.

Adding an initiativeLink to this section

An initiative is something your organisation intends to do about AI, big enough to be worth naming: standardise on one assistant, run learning sessions for the finance team, write down what information can go into a tool.

Choose Add an item at the top of the page, or the add button at the top of a column. Fill in:

  • Title
  • Why: what it's for, in your own words
  • Category: one per initiative. Strategy, Technology and People come with every account, and you can add your own
  • Stage: the column it sits in (below)
  • Scale: Pilot, Limited roll-out or Full roll-out
  • Owner: who is responsible for it. AI Champions are marked (AI Champion) in the list; see AI Champions
  • Timing: Now (being worked on, or about to be), Next (the stretch after this one), Later (agreed, but not scheduled) or Ongoing (runs continuously, with no end date)
  • Tags: anything else worth filtering on. A few come with every account, such as learning, AI tools and measurement
  • Groups it covers, and the dates it Started and is Due by
  • Pulses: the pulses that show whether it's working, each marked Active or Paused

An initiative added with Add an item starts in Backlog, and one added from a column starts in that column.

Moving initiatives alongLink to this section

The board has five columns:

ColumnWhat it holds
BacklogIdeas not yet prioritised
ConsideringBeing looked at
PlannedAgreed, and scheduled
In progressRolling out
AdoptedPart of how the organisation works now

Drag an initiative between columns, or within a column to change its order; every drag can also be done from the keyboard. Two places sit beside the columns:

  • Stopped: decided against, or tried and didn't hold. It keeps the initiative and its reason, which is often the more useful record.
  • Archived: off the board, still in the record.

Board, Timeline and List show the same initiatives three ways, and Category, Tag and Timing narrow what's shown.

What your people seeLink to this section

Members, Group Leaders and Senior Leaders see a read-only Roadmap with the initiatives in Planned, In progress and Adopted. Backlog and Considering stay with Owners and Admins, so people see what the organisation has committed to rather than every idea on the table.

Where initiatives come fromLink to this section

The AI State of Play asks people where they see opportunities, and its results list them; a review's Initiatives item shows what's rolling out, and its comments often suggest the next one. Record each one worth doing as an initiative, with an owner. See The AI State of Play survey and Running a review.
