The library holds ready-made pulses you can add. Each repeats on a schedule and has locked questions. Nothing is added automatically, because a pulse that suits a software team may mean nothing to a marketing team.
Where pulses live: MeasurementLink to this section
Pulses sit under Measurement in the menu, on three lists:
- Standard pulses holds the three core pulses: The AI Pulse, The AI Review and The AI Capability Check. Switch one on, change its schedule or preview its questions. General Feedback, which people open whenever they have something to say, is switched on and read in Feedback.
- Pulse library holds the ready-made pulses that come with Pro, and is marked Pro in the menu. It opens on every plan, so you can see what's there.
- Custom pulses holds the pulses your organisation builds, and the two ways to start one. It's marked Pro too.
How it works, first under Measurement, explains how measurement works, how far to trust the figures, and what each plan includes.
The AI State of Play isn't a pulse: it's a survey of everyone, asked once, which you run from Governance set-up. See The AI State of Play survey.
What's in the libraryLink to this section
| Pulse | Job | Default cadence |
|---|---|---|
| The Agentic Coding Pulse | Is delegating work to this tool a net win, after checking time? | Daily |
| The AI Adoption Sentiment Pulse | How does AI adoption feel across the organisation? | Monthly |
| The Manager Pulse | What is getting in a team's way with AI, and what would help? | Monthly |
The Agentic Coding Pulse asks about today, so it arrives daily. Its questions and its cadence go together: a question about today asked once a week would collect one day in seven and report about a fifth of the hours actually saved. You can still change the cadence, and if you do, read the reported hours with that in mind.
Recommended pulses come first while no filter is set: the pulses we recommend for measurement that you haven't added yet. A Category filter (Operational, Agentic, Sentiment) and a search box narrow the list, and opening any pulse shows every question exactly as your team would see it, before you commit to anything.
Some pulses have been retired, so they don't appear and can't be added:
- The four Discovery pulses, The Current AI Use Pulse, The AI Risk Pulse, The AI Opportunity Pulse and The Agent & Automation Pulse, were one-off surveys that repeated parts of The AI State of Play. A copy you added says Replaced by The AI State of Play under Governance, with Open The AI State of Play. See the four Discovery pulses.
- The Comparison Pulse, which put two tools head to head.
- The Agent Review, which asked the people who check an agent's work how often they had to step in. To ask them about an agent now, build a custom pulse about that tool and assign it to them (Pro); see Measuring agents.
- The Leadership View pulse, which asked each leader about their part of the organisation and what they want from AI. The Leadership Position tool under Governance replaces it: each member of the leadership team chooses a position on seven AI decisions, then the team agrees one position together. A copy added before it was retired says Replaced by the Leadership Position tool under Governance.
Organisations that added one keep it on Pulse library, with its report and its history intact. It can be paused, closed or archived, but not started again.
If there's a pulse you wish existed, tell us under Feature requests, at the foot of every page in the app.
SchedulesLink to this section
Each pulse's row says Repeating, with how often it comes round ("Once per week"). You change the schedule in the pulse's builder, so you can see the trend over time.
One other word can show where the schedule would be:
- One-off, on a copy of a retired one-off pulse, or a custom pulse built as a one-off: it opens, each person answers once, and it closes on its closing date or once enough people have answered, whichever comes first. Close now on its row closes it straight away.
How to add oneLink to this section
- Open Measurement → Pulse library.
- Open the pulse you're interested in to preview its questions, then hit Add this pulse.
- The pulse is created paused and opens in the builder. Review the schedule, adjust it if you like, then switch it on. Nothing reaches your team until you do.
Each library pulse can be added once per organisation.
Clone to editLink to this section
Pulses on Standard pulses and Pulse library also offer Clone to edit: it creates your own editable copy as a custom pulse and opens it in the builder, where you can change the questions, the name and anything else.
Custom pulses has the two ways to start from nothing: Create a custom pulse from a blank page, or Describe the pulse you want and get a draft you edit before you save it (see building a custom pulse).
A clone is a new pulse with its own reports; the original keeps collecting under its own name.
What you get with each planLink to this section
With Standard, you get the three core pulses, with The AI State of Play in Governance set-up and General Feedback, which you read in Feedback.
With Pro, you also get the Pulse library, custom pulses, cloning and archiving. Trials run on Pro, so you can add anything from the library while you are trialling.
You can browse the whole library on any plan. Every pulse stays visible with its preview, and the ones that come with Pro are marked, so you can see what's there before deciding.
If a Pro organisation moves to Standard, nothing is deleted: archived pulses and their answers are kept, and reports for past periods still read from them. The pulses that come with Pro stop delivering, and archived pulses lock, until you're on a plan with them again. If you need an archived pulse in the meantime, contact support and we'll sort it out with you.
What you can changeLink to this section
Library pulses work exactly like core pulses: the questions are locked, and delivery is yours to run.
Reports compare the same answers to the same questions, so rewording a question would break the comparison between this month and last.
What you can change: the cadence, the description, the delivery window, and the header colour. A Reset to default link takes the schedule back to the recommended cadence. The name stays as it is: reports and plan rules recognise a pulse by its name, so included and library pulses keep theirs. If you want a different name or different questions entirely, Clone to edit gives you an editable copy (Pro), or on Pro you can build a custom pulse from blank.
Retiring a pulse: archivingLink to this section
- An active pulse can't be removed. If you archive one, the same action pauses it and archives it in one step.
- A paused pulse with no answers can be deleted outright. There's nothing to lose.
- A paused pulse with answers is archived: it moves to Archived pulses, at the foot of its list, stops delivering, and its answers stay readable in Reports (archived pulses sit in their own group in the report's pulse list).
- Restore brings a pulse back to its list, paused, ready to switch on whenever you like.
- Delete, for a pulse with answers, only happens from Archived pulses. It removes the pulse and every answer it collected, and reports for past periods will change, so we ask you to type the pulse's name to confirm. One thing stays: figures your organisation has already contributed to the benchmark programme, combined with other organisations' and without names. Switching off Contribute to industry insights, in Settings → Organisation, removes them straight away; figures already published stay as they are.
- The three core pulses are never deletable. Pause or archive them, yes; delete, no.
